Everyone has life goals. This is not the same as career goals. This is something a person wants to feel accomplished for themselves. Mine aren’t any less or more realistic than anyone else. My life goals are surely simplified and practical, and that’s okay. If I was twenty, my life goals would be very different. I’m in my forties, and now morality sets in. When I reflect on things I want to do, I want to be someone who says, “I did that.” I don’t mind sharing some of them and keeping the very personal ones private. I also write this to keep track of achieving them. The milestones are for my satisfaction and self-worth; I don’t expect everyone to share them.
A bucket list is different from a life goal, I think. A bucket list is something once completed, does not have to be completed again. In contrast, once a life goal is attained, there is continuous use or expansion of knowledge. For example, a bucket list for my wife and I was a river cruise in Europe. If we never get to do it again, at least we can say we did it once. A life goal of having a vegetable garden means we are sustainable, saving us money, plus gaining the knowledge of how to grow our own food for the rest of our lives.
Life goals:
- Be self-sustained as a writer and video game developer.
- Grow my wife’s baking business
- Grow a successful vegetable garden
- Build my own off-grid office (shed)
- Convert an ICE vehicle to an EV (preferably a Jeep Wrangler JK or Range Rover Evoque cause I like the look of them)
- Learn a second language
- Get a master’s and PhD in creative writing/astrophysics (I’m a lifelong learner)
Writing it in this blog is a way to keep my goals in check and balance with my life. I plan to achieve them and do so, not just for wishful thinking but to complete them, even if I’m in my eighties.
