2024 was a busy year for me. Tiring enough that writing on the blog was not exciting, and I procrastinated to do it. Now, I have more time to push to get more writing accomplished.
With writing, there is also reading; as writers, we need to continue reading a lot. Read everything, even if it’s not a preferred genre. It helps open a writer to new possibilities for seeing characters and situations, even turns of phrases or just an interesting use of vocabulary.
The hyperlinks direct to Halifax Public Library or Indigo only to show the book’s cover for those interested. They are not necessarily the version I read, nor am I endorsing a purchase.
These are the books that I’ve read in 2024:
- The Last Hockey Player by Bretton Loney
- Halo: Fall of Reach. Invasion by Brian Reed
- ‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King
- The Last Thing She Saw by Nina Laurin *
- The Last Secret by Maia Caron *
- Alien: Uncivil War by Brendan Deneen *
- The Toyota Way: 14 Management Principles From the World’s Greatest Manufacturer by Jeffery K. Liker ***
Yes, compared to last year, I almost read nothing. Also, when I said read, I meant until completion. I started a few books but couldn’t finish them by the time I needed to return them to the library, or they were just not for me.
- Under the Dome by Stephen King.
- The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
- Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
- A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess — I stopped after the second page. It was unreadable.
- For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway — a small book review is coming on this.
- The City and Its Uncertain Walls by Haruki Murakami
I feel guilty that I couldn’t give the books a chance, or anxious that it was a good book, like Under the Dome, but it was so long that I couldn’t read it in time to return it — someone was waiting for it.
How about you? How was your reading list last year? Did you intend to read a book but never get through it?
